Description
Whitefly nymphs. Coloured Scanning Electron Micro- graph (SEM) of nymphs or larvae of whitefly (superfamily: Aleurodoidea). Here the flattened oval nymphs are coloured brown on a green plant surface. Whiteflies are major plant pests that attack crops and garden plants. The eggs, laid on a plant, hatch into these nymphs. The immobile nymph goes through a number of moulting stages while feeding on plant sap. After four moults the nymph stops feeding and metamorphoses into a reproductive adult with wings. Whitefly produce a waxy substance which can be seen as red globules. Magnification: x60 at 6x7cm size. Magnification: x175 at 8x10 inch size.
