Artist's Description
Columbus airplane, TAT airline, 1928. This aircraft (the 'Columbus', later 'City of Columbus') was the first aeroplane of a new transcontinental air line (Transcontinental Air Transport, TAT). One of the founders was US aviation pioneer Charles Lindbergh. The aircraft is here at Boiling Field airport, Washington DC, USA. The TAT airline was founded in 1928 by Clement Melville Keys. It offered flights from Columbus, Ohio, to Waynoka, Oklahoma, with the rest of the journey between the US East and West Coasts by train. The aircraft had Ford Trimotor engines (logo on tail).
