I had been working on the mixed media canvas titled “Compassion Crowns the Soul Number 2” for quite some time before realizing what it was about. Namely, the amazing way people sometimes manage to push aside their own pain in order to help others through theirs. Therefore, the bronze rose partially hidden by shadows on the left side of the canvas manages to blossom and shine tints of golden light despite its surroundings. The charred brick frame not only continues standing, but suddenly appears to be something more than brick and still offers a view to a hope-inspiring polychromatic landscape of green, yellow, blue, red, violet, and orange.

SERIES OVERVIEW
April is both National Poetry Month and Jazz Appreciation Month in the United States, and my COMPASSION CROWNS THE SOUL art series is a celebration of both. This month, for many, is also a time of spiritual renewal and rebirth.

The name of the art series comes from a poem titled “Angel of Healing: for the Living, the Dying, and the Praying,” published in The River of Winged Dreams. It is about how developing such qualities as empathy, wisdom, and compassion can help human beings rise above the painful tragedies which often afflict many of our lives.
