Description
Wormhole. Computer graphic using a fractal to depict the inside of a tunnel-like wormhole. Ahead, at the end of the tunnel, is a Saturn-like planet. Einstein showed that space was combined with time to form a fourth dimension, spacetime. Spacetime is distorted by the presence of mass, a phenomenon we know as gravity. In extreme gravitational fields, such as those created by a black hole, spacetime may be distorted so much that it collapses to form a singularity. This may be thought of as a hole in spacetime. It has been suggested that such holes are connected by tunnel-like 'wormholes' to distant points in our Universe or even to parallel universes.
