Description
Fresh Water: There is an abundant flow of it everywhere on Mount Kóziakas in central Greece. This is a shot of the river Cephalopótamos, flowing still chilly even at the foot of the mountain. The cool breeze provided by the river is much appreciated on hot days by all who live in the nearby village Gorgogyri.
Cephalopotamos is a tributary of the river Peneios (aka Peneus), the main river of the plain of Thessaly with a total length of more than 124 miles (200 kms). Peneus crosses the valley of Tempē (cutting a path between Mt. Olympus and Ossa) and then it flows into the Aegean Sea. In mythology, the god Peneios was son of Oceanus and Tēthys.
