Copper II ion solutions. Solution of copper II ions (Cu2-) in copper sulphate (left). When ammonia (NH3) is added four water molecules from the solution are replaced with ammonia ions to form tetraaminediaqua copper II complex ions ((Cu(NH3)4(H2O))2+), which are dark blue in solution (right).
