I just got a macro lens and staring to look at what 'tiny landscape' photographers choose to photograph. This guy looks like he wants to say something. I'd like say to him 'open your mouth and say Ah." Have you seen the movie Ants? He look just like the bad ass grasshopper on that movie. Thanks for the inspiration.

Lois Bryan replied:

Hi Debbie!!!! Wishing you tons of fun and enjoyment with your macro lens ... it's a whole different ball game!!! Glad you enjoyed my little friend here ... he was so patient with me ... I had so much fun with him!!!

Fantastic macro, Lois! A definite favorite and vote! F/L/V

Lois Bryan replied:

Hey Amy!!! Thank you so much!!!

Ha!!..what a funny picture. Good job, great title. fv

Lois Bryan replied:

: )) So glad you enjoyed it!!!

A face only a mother could Love! Nicely done!!

Gorgeous macro! Love this feasting on pollen green grasshopper against orange background! Wonderful details!

Lois this is such a fantastic macro, I love the way he is looking at you eating his "corn" lol! Excellent photo and title!...f/v20

What a wonderful capture of this fine fellow! v/f

Lois Bryan replied:

Thanks so much, Susan!!

LOIS, WHAT A BEAUTIFUL PORTRAIT OF THIS GRASSHOPPER! THE DETAIL IS FANTASTIC, AS WELL THE COMPOSITION! WITH THE BRIGHT YELLOW FLOWERS IN THE BACKGROUND GOING SOFTLY OUT OF FOCUS AND THE GRASSHOPPERS EYES RADIATING, POPPING OUT OF THE IMAGE ITSELF, MAKE THIS ONE EXCEPTIONAL CAPTURE NOT SEEN TO OFTEN! INDEED, THIS IS A DEFINITE "NATURE POSTCARD, NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC MAGAZINE PHOTO AT IT'S BEST" BEING AT THE RIGHT PLACE, AT THE RIGHT TIME, HELPS ALOT!, LES (F/V)

Lois Bryan replied:

Thanks, Leslie ... you've reminded me that I have several more shots from this great opportunity ... I should hunt them up!! Probably a post-able capture or two in there!!!! Thank you again!!!

LOIS, ONE OF MY FAVORITES IN YOUR'E COLLECTION. UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL, JUST THE WAY I LIKE THEM! YOU REALLY CAPTURED THIS GRASSHOPPER. THE DETAIL ON HIS FACE AND ANTENNAS IS VERY SHARP WHILE EVERYTHING ELSE GOES SLIGHTLY OUT OF FOCUS. BEING THAT I SHOOT ALOT OF MACRO I WAS WONDERING IF YOU USED ANY EXTENSION TUBES OR JUST THE MACRO LENS IN THIS SHOT! IT DOESN'T GET ANY BETTER, GREAT SHOT! ON MY FAVORITE LIST AND VOTED TOO! LES

Lois Bryan replied:

Leslie, thank you!!!! This guy practically posed for me ... I had a lot of fun with him that day. On this one, no I did not use extension tubes ... I was using the 60mm at the time, so I was very much IN his face ... I think that accounts for the shallow dof, as I see I noted I was shooting on f/13. Most of my tight macro work is now done with the Nikon 105mm and one or all three extension tubes ... I'm using the Promaster Spectrum for Nikon. I find them to be VERY frustrating ... but when everything comes together, SO rewarding!!! Thanks again for your visit and note.

Neal, thank you so much for the feature in "Macro Photography"!!!!

Awesome macro shot Lois--love the color and the color contrast!

Lois Bryan replied:

Hi Bill, thank you!!!!!!

Great shot, Lois, perfect focus, and I could swear I detect a smile! fv

Lois Bryan replied:

Byron, thank you ... I have to tell you ... the secret to good focus is a subject WHO HOLDS STILL, lol!!!!!! This guy was completely oblivious to me!!!!

Great capture, Lois. He does look like he is nibbling. f/v ;-)

Lois Bryan replied:

Thanks Theresa ... he was!!!

:: Dimensions :: . . beautiful macro photography Lois . . you are featured in :: Fine Art Photography ::

Lois Bryan replied:

Sharon, thank you so so so much for the honor of a feature!!!!! I truly appreciate this!!!!

Insects are amazing! You show us how to appreciate these cute little guys as well as the beautiful butterflies!

Lois Bryan replied:

Thank you so much, Jeanne ... beauty really is in the eyes of the beholder ... I've never seen an ugly insect!!!! Well, I take that back ... I do hate stink bugs, lol!!!!

Ha ha, I LOVE this, I tried to do a similar pic with my tiny camera, of course it didn't work... this is sooo great!! It looks like he is sitting inside a Lilly! Your photographs are Amazing!!!

Lois Bryan replied:

Hi Nancy ... he WAS inside the lily ... goofy thing ... and he just sat there for the longest time, munching away!!!

Bob, thank you so much!!!

All of your work is so meticulously arranged...nothing seems by chance..making even the simplict theme so interesting to look at !!!

Many years ago, my uncle Thomas (Tom) Phillip Hufford asked me to come up with a word the opposite of predator. Amitor is that word. Ami: Fr. friend, Amigo: Sp. friend, Amity: Eng. harmony, Ami: Formosa, Taiwan. Giraffe: non predatory animal unless young attacked. Butterflies: live, love, laugh, hope. Survive, thrive and inspire others. Pen Sherwood offered to do this Amtor artwork for free sharing the copyright with me for my Amitor concept. Amitor Tom would be so proud. Diana Hays Kisselburg

About Lois Bryan

Welcome to Lois Bryan Photography and Digital Art. I'm a photographer and digital artist living in the mid-Atlantic area of the US. Most of my images are based on the photos I capture ... some are based on images captured by my son, Rich Bryan ... and some are sketched and digitally painted completely freehand. Although my goal will always be to catch that perfect shot straight out of the camera, I love exploring the artistic and creative process as I work with Photoshop and other image editing programs. Fine art purchases of my images will not include watermarks, and if I may make a recommendation ... images will look their very best on the fine art paper choice of "picture rag."
