Description
There's so many qualities about this painting that I love. There's a sort of circular feedback loop of many elements in this piece.
The barn depicted in the painting is the barn in which this massive old saw-blade was found.
I painted the rows of wheat in gold metallic paint and discovered that it is translucent from certain angles. This lead me to the idea of placing a hidden crop circle underneath the gold paint which is revealed as you walk by the painting. I used a dremmel to carve through the rust on the saw to reveal the shiny silver metal which also shimmers as you walk by. This technique was also utilized for the tin roof on the red barn in the background. The crop circle design mimmicks a circular spinning saw blade.
The rust and dirt on the saw blade is left alone to give the impression of dirt in the field.
It all turned out surprisingly well and has a sort of three-dimensional effect in person.
