This Spotted Cucumber Beetle (Diabrotica undecimpunctata, also known as the Southern Corn Rootworm) is resting on a wild mustard (Brassica sp.) plant. These beetles can cause serious damage to cucumber and melon crops, not because the adults feed on the leaves and flowers of the plants, nor because the larvae feed on a plant's roots. But because they are a vector of a bacterium that causes the vines to wilt.
