Description
DU Rounds is a project I stumbled onto one day reading a UK newspaper, I came to this image of a soldier handling DU rounds (depleted Uranium). I didn’t give it much thought; I just thought at the time that it was an interesting image I might use in the future. About 3 or so months went by and I had totally forgotten about the image, when it came up again. So, I thought I’d do an etching of it trying a new technique, incorporating sign making industry techniques and technology into the old world art of etching, I tried it a couple times before with some interesting results. So I gave it a shot. It was rough in the beginning because I didn’t have a path for this plate to go down until a good friend told me that to make the piece more interesting I should paint some paper and print on that. I did and found it fun and interesting so I kept on going for about 10 more. Then is when I had an epiphany, that this would be a project that could help a lot of people. My father is a Vietnam vet who has had trouble getting help from the government for PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) and was seeing threw him so many of our new vets getting the same treatment. So I had to help, and found that this was a way for me to help.
What started out as an interesting image grew into something bigger than my self? Something that could help many people and educate others as well. DU Rounds is a series of 50 etchings that are approximately 22 by 30 inches each is unique to itself ranging from beauty to horror. A visual education if you will. They are made to grab your attention and stimulate conversation, and with conversation hopefully cultivate change. As Depleted Uranium contamination is so destructive and enduring, the UN has declared it to be illegal to use in warfare, but our country and the UK use it regularly.
The sole purpose of this artwork and exhibition is to help our troops coming home from this war. I have pledged that 95% of all proceeds will go to help our troops and there families that are in need. From medical to helping them keep their homes.
But to get this going I do need some donations to get it off the ground I’m going to need around $5000 to finish the project they all need matting and framing, If you are interested in donating or know a framer that would be interested in donating sometime and materials this dream will become reality all the sooner.
Thank You
