this was the second Photograph that I bought for my friends birthday as we visited the lake disatrict many times and stayed a week at a time, sometimes we saw the sky change its beautiful colours before we settled down at night for bed we visualise been in the photograph and there at the lakes too. Photographs a quality that would be hard to beat. I will be buying more very soon.

Artist's Description

Out to sea probably around late 1930's. My father in the wheelhouse of "Superior", deckhand behind the winch used to haul back the net - hopefully full of fish. Her keel was the last to be laid by Arthur Story of Essex before he died. His previous boat the famous Gloucester fishing schooner "Gertrude L. Thebaud" was launched March 17,1930. So it would seem that Grandfathers boat was the prime example of the changeover from sail to power for the Gloucester fishing industry from one of the premier builders of Essex.

About Laurence Dahlmer

After spending almost forty years building and repairing boats on Smith Cove, I’ve spent the last twelve painting full time. My first work was a 4‘x18’ mural of Smith Cove, which hangs on the building that houses my gallery at 15 Rocky Neck Ave. I then proceeded in painting 147 oil paintings, concentrating on showing Gloucester’s history. My last work before escaping Gloucester for the winter in 2008 was a 4‘x24’ mural of Smith Cove, a full circle of the cove, between the two murals. On my other website www.ladarts.com I have set my paintings into the written history of Gloucester starting with Samuel de Champlains first visit in 1606, and showing the fishing industry changes through the years.
