Vintage Italian postage stamp commemorating the 50th anniversary of the foundation of the Kingdom of Italy in 1861, laying the politocal foundations of modern Italy. The new kingdom invoked the history of ancient Rome to lend weight and legitimacy to their newly formed state. In ancient Rome, Roma was a goddess who personified the city. But actually the Romans in their typical way had borrowed the female deity from the ancient Greeks.
Born in London in 1965, I have lived and worked in Spain, Italy, Sri Lanka, and Germany. Photography has been a virtually life-long hobby and has accompanied me on my travels. Hi Dan, thanks for your comment. Yes the stamps mainly come from a lifelong collection, of, basically, stamps which I always thought looked nice. Then came the idea of making prints. Most are based on my collection, but I also make a few targeted purchases now that I'm aware of the copyright status of stamps from different countries. That's why some countries, with stamps in the public domain, are "over-represented" in my portfolio. Anyway, probably more info than you wanted but still, thanks for your interest :-)
