Love this. Thanks for the explanation of the suspended building. So interesting!

WOW! Wonderful, Lois! Great capture! V/F

this is cool L

What a great capture, Lois! I had to look at this closely to find out for myself what the object in the background is. At first I thought it could have been a giant mailbox (smile). I like this a lot! V

Lois Bryan replied:

Kellice, I know what you mean ... I've got a couple of great shots of these things ... they look like something from Star Wars when you get them all together and form the right angle ... I should post that one of these days, lol!!!

Thanks so much to the hosts of "3 A Day Greeting Cards" ... "3 A Day Waiting Room Art" ... "Red and Blue" ... "Mouse" ... "Comfortable Art" ... "Women Photographers" ... and "Photographic Excellence" for all the very much appreciated features!!

superb capture Lois! The light mist of snow truly adds the true feel of being up on top,, and love the pop of red!

Lois Bryan replied:

Hi Linda!!! Thank you!!!!

Fantastic shot! It took me a minute to figure out why there was a barn up in the air! haha! Looks like Santa is ready for the slopes! f/l ((Found a kind comment from you from back in Oct and I wanted to thank you so much for all your support for me while I was without internet for a couple of months!

Lois Bryan replied:

Hi Debbie ... glad you got the Santa connection ... lol!!! Blue Knob is a top-down mountain, meaning, you arrive at the lodge and ski down instead of the other way around. We get some amazing weather up there!!!! The little barn is actually the housing for the mechanism that works the lifts. They do look funny, don't they??

Fabulous capture Lois! Great timing! v/f

Lois Bryan replied:

Hi Tessa thank you!!

Wonderful! v

Lois Bryan replied:

Thank you, Dale!

Thanks so much to the host of "Snow and Ice Landscapes" for the feature!!! Much appreciated!!

Love the selective color, which looks like it might have actually been a natural occurrence!! v

Lois Bryan replied:

Hi Carla!!! Thank you!!! And yes, for once I didnt' do anything other than put it thru Camera Raw and do a bit of cropping!!! The snow from the blowers off to the side created the misty look to the background.

Awesome shot Lois! v/w

Lois Bryan replied:

Hi John, thank you!!

Features, /Like & Fav

Lois Bryan replied:

thank you, Colette!!!

Ooooo, love that shot of red Lois. Very nice capture here

Lois Bryan replied:

Thanks so much, Chris!!!

Lois, this is so fun, he looks as if he is holding up the ski lift building, perfect timing and a beautiful photo of winter and the fun of skiing!! F/L!!

Lois Bryan replied:

Thanks, Sandi ... I was snapping around, working with the blowing snow when he marched past ... it was perfect timing indeed!!! Glad you got a kick out of it!!

Fantastic shot Lois, the red jacket really pops in all of the white snow!...fav/vote

Lois Bryan replied:

Donna thank you ... it does!! I was really lucky that he happened along at just the right time!!

Wonderful image ... really like how you caught the color on the gentleman in the foreground .... L/F/t

Lois Bryan replied:

Hi Rick ... thank you. This image is nearly straight out of the camera. The opaqueness of the background and the vividness of the man are due to a snow machine behind him and to the left ... just far enough so that he was out of the intense spray.

Beautiful image!!!

Lois Bryan replied:

Thanks, Tricia!!!

Round Beach Towel Reviews (29)

Average Rating (5 Stars):

August 29th, 2018

The beach towel is really just for laying on inasmuch as it is too big and heavy to put around your body, which is just fine. The artwork in it is beautiful. I can't wait to use it.

Love the beautiful colours and tropical feel of this towel. I'm so looking forward to taking it on holidays with me.

July 22nd, 2018

I bought this as a gift. I love it! Hope the receiver loves it too!

July 19th, 2018

Wow - I didn't realise it was going to be that big! It's a gift for a young member of the family - I think he'll be thrilled as he's a tractor fanatic at 6 years old. A practical gift too. The towel has a smoother upper side so it'll be more comfortable to sit on at the beach. It seems to have a thick absorbent power so no usual skinny beach towel.

very nice, love the colour not keen on the white tastle border but i like it, i'm going to use it as blanket for my hamock,

Artist's Description

The day after Christmas means fun and relaxation for one person in particular! Santa Claus!! The wonderful haze in the background is due to the fact that just off to the left, out of frame, is a giant snowblower actively blowing out the white stuff!! This was one of those rare occasions when I actually had my camera ready, and everything came together. The large structure up on stilts behind "Santa" is actually the mechanism that brings the skiers up the mountain. Blue Knob is a top down mountain, meaning, you ski down from the top, and are brought back up via large machines like the one you see here rather than the other way around. Image taken on top of Blue Knob Mountain in Claysburg, Pa, winter of 2012 with the Nikon D300 and the 18-200mm vr Nikon / Nikkor lens.

About Lois Bryan

Welcome to Lois Bryan Photography and Digital Art. I'm a photographer and digital artist living in the mid-Atlantic area of the US. My photography and photo-based works are based on my own images, unless otherwise specifically mentioned and credited. In so far as artistic processing goes, the photographer and "artist" in me are frequently at war, so that although my goal will always be to catch that perfect shot straight out of the camera, I really do love exploring the artistic and creative process. Often, the image itself will tell me what it wants, and I do my best to comply. I work with Photoshop and other image editing programs on my photos to the degree that in the end the original photo may not even be recognizable. More...
