Hmm...there are bad reasons as well as good. :) Thank you for that thought, Juls!

I still have mixed emotions about the experience...

To answer your inquiry, I am still active in Nikonians, enjoy the monthly challenge, find it helps to keep my old brain thinking creatively!

Wow! Thanks for sharing the background story, it makes the image that much more meaningful.

The scene was surreal. Bells rang as the priest skewered his blood, just a single tear. This all led to a lengthy discussion with my group, which was an educational tour. At the very least I learned to be careful what I ask for...

The Hindu temple is famous for self-mortification and I asked whether my group would have an opportunity to see it. I was told that for a small fee it was possible. I expected an old man who fancied himself a human pin cushion, not a 12 year old!

Thank you, Susan! Good memory! Are you still active at Nikonians? There is a long story behind this image. It was indeed moving and memorable, in part because as the tour leader I was naively responsible in small part for the ceremony occurring. It was all terribly real and genuine. If only I had known...

Excellent job on this one, must have been a very moving experience. I remember your fine work from Nikonian's online assignment forum miss seeing you there. You have an outstanding collection of works!

It was one of the most dramatic photographic experiences I have had! Thank you, Juls! ~Steve
