Description
Isaac Newton Telescope (INT). Dome of the 2.5- metre INT at the La Roque de los Muchachos observatory on La Palma in the Canary Islands. The telescope is used for observations over a range of wavelengths from ultraviolet to infrared (340-1100 nanometres). It was formerly at the Royal Greenwich Observatory's site at Herstmonceux Castle in Sussex, UK, but was moved to La Palma to take advantage of the better observing conditions found there. The high altitude (about 2300 metres) of the telescope's current location, and the clear air above it, minimise atmospheric distortions to incoming light.
