At the top of Mauna Kea after a blizzard struck and blanketed the mountain in more than six feet of snow, a brilliant day of sunshine followed after the storm passed. Evidence of how blistering winds carved the snow into arabesques can be seen on the slope on the right. I am always exhilarated to go to the top of our Mauna after the snow has fallen. Temperatures are frigid and the lack of oxygen at an elevation of over 13,000 feet above seal level render fingers, noses and toes cold within moments as your body cannot provide enough oxygen to those extremities. Even so, I revel in the extraordinary beauty from the top of the world.
