I had heard from others I traveled with that the Convento de San Francisco was quite beautiful inside and out, I can only claim direct knowledge of the latter. On my last afternoon in Granada, I arrived at the steps to this historic and beautiful edifice just as they were closing the doors.
Against the dusk blue skies, I have to say that the beautiful Neoclassical facade, part of the last rebuilding of the church in the late 19th century, was quite fabulous. I'm guessing from the copious decoration that it's part of the Beaux Arts movement?
Whatever the case, it reminded me greatly of pictures I've seen of Spanish Missions in the American southwest. And it made me wish for a few more days to roam Granada's historic city center.
