This handsome beach house jutted out over a salt marsh east of Newberry, MA. As I painted this image in the early '90's, I recalled the words of Edward Hopper who once said all he ever really wanted to do was paint sunlight on the side of a house. I think I kind of had that same thought as this painting developed. These straight on views of structures, eliminating the lines of perspective, attract me. I wonder who is napping in that upstairs window?
