Description
Ebola virus. Artwork based on a coloured transmission electron micrograph (TEM). Each particle consists of a ribonucleic acid (RNA) genome within a nucleocapsid, which is surrounded by a glycoprotein envelope. This virus is the cause of ebola haemorrhagic fever in humans and nonhuman primates. It is a severe and often fatal disease with symptoms including fever, fatigue, muscle aches, vomiting, diarrhoea and haemorrhaging (internal bleeding). There is no cure for the disease, but three quarters of patients can recover if provided with sufficient medical support. Magnification: x80000 when printed at 10 centimetres hide.
