This image is composed of four separate images of phases during the Great American Eclipse of 2017. It begins with the full sun before the eclipse started. The next phase is the crescent sun, as the moon blocks a portion of the solar light. Then the diamond, where only a small amount of sunlight is visible. The process ends at totality, as the flares surround the moon.
