As simple the thought of crosshatch, but how refined is the artist hands. I love the idea up close is so many lines, but away reality comes forth. So perfect is the piece. Keep it up Lucien.

Larry, Thank you for the great words and observation. yes, creating contours or the illusion of roundness using only straight line is a very challenging and fun way to create a piece of artwork... i am please you stopped by and that you enjoyed the piece of artwork well enough to leave me such a nice comment about it... take care and cheers! The picture is beautiful as are all of Spencer Meagher's works. It is a wedding gift to a couple who spent their honeymoon in the area where this picture was painted. So I will be unable to supply you with a photo. But I can tell you I am very pleased with the painting and I have high hopes the happy couple will be as well.

This was my second metal print and I have not been disappointed. Quality is first class on both my metal pictures. They are glossy as metal prints are. I do love them but am hoping maybe some non-glare metal prints will also be available in the future. But for now, these are really very very nice and good not to have to mat and frame everything. They are ready to hang right out of the box and really do look sharp on the wall.

Artist's Description

I wanted to paint and draw this elephant pose using three techniques or styles. The first was as a black and white, then as a three grayscale tints using gouache paint. And the third pen and ink where I used crosshatching to see if I could create the feel of contours and the form of the animal. I liked the idea of doing the elephant in a close up that showed more of his forehead and tusks. Then allowing the trunk to disappear at the bottom of the image and his ears disappearing off the sides of the artwork and yet still show the form of the animal. I liked the effect and thought the end results very dramatic and unique and yet capturing the size of the animal. This is the pen and ink cross hatch version.
