The leaves in Mather Campground must be especially appealing to the Elk in the area. A Herd of 28 came browsing through the Campground, and then one by one began lying down to rest after eating. Over 90% of those here, had left for the South Rim or other areas of the Grand Canyon, while a few of us were able to enjoy the Elk.
..Then there are the major viewpoints like Mather, and Yavapai, which are must see locations. Probably at least 90% of visitors go there so they can be crowded

Less crowded locations, with fantastic views are Guano, Lapin, Moron, Navajo, and Desert View. Most all of the viewpoints have views of the Colorado river, but some of the best have no view of the river or very restricted one. Maps of the park show some of the areas that you would like other than Mather and Yaivapai. Peaks that are prominant such as Isis Temple, Thor, Zoroaster, and views of the Abyss.
