Description
For most of my life I have been a small town girl…living in communities of 30,000 or less. But for a while we lived in Denver,a city of about 3 million people. For a couple years I was praying that God would open a door for us to move back to a tinier municipality. Yet there we remained.
While riding my bike I took a trail to a hill from which you can see the vast urban sprawl and towering sky scrapers. As I quietly looked over this view I sensed the Spirit saying,
“Embrace the city”
…and a sweet peace came over me. Riding back down into the neighborhoods and businesses, there was joy in seeing all the beauty…and all the souls needing Jesus.
Upon returning home I worked up a sketch for this painting. Jesus’ arms embrace the skyline as throngs of people of all races, genders, and ages come into the city…the mission field just outside our door. We should embrace the same compassion our Lord has for these people.
To look around us each moment, each day for that one who needs His love shown through our actions. As we care for those who may need food, shelter, kind words…let us do so for the Glory of God, and bring the Light of His love to a lost and weary world.
