Sirpa Mononen

a splendid work with a cosmic clarity and atmosphere.

Antony Galbraith replied:

Thanks Sirpa! I find that the Irish deities have a strong connection to the cosmos.

Eriu, along with Brigid and Creidhne have a wonderful style of organic curved designs woven with a soothing energetic flow. I look forward to seeing more in this vein in the future.

Antony Galbraith replied:

Thanks Dave. I was really enjoying the glazing process with the acrylics and this was one of my favorites. It was big and bold and soothing to work on.

Karen L Christophersen

Antony Galbraith replied:

Thank you Karen! When I think of Ireland, I think about how burst of color appear from the green.

I love this artist's designs. I have bought a couple of her sturdy and unusual bags. I use them with knitting projects.

I ordered this beautifully colorful and evocative work on a bag, and am very pleased with the results. It's a large tote, so very convenient. Thank you, Renu S, for your inspiring, beautifully rendered, uplifting paintings and sketches that reveal a real creative force at work! I like the narratives these paintings weave.

I just LOVE these. The art is magnificent and the quality of the products is impressive. I purchased the Heirophant (Jerry) shower curtain and the Fool (Janis) tote as a present, and a 2nd tote for me. The recipients loved them as much as I! My tote has taken over as an every day bag since I love it sooo much. I would highly recommend these items as well as anything done by the amazingly talented Kathy Zyduck. The details in the art is breathtaking. Thank you. I will definitely be ordering from here again!❤❤

This bag ended up better than other products I ordered, though the color still came out much differently than what I expected.

Artist's Description

Eriu was the sovereign earth-mother goddess of Ireland. She was one of a triad of goddesses: her sisters, Banbha and Fodla, were also goddess queens of the land. Eriu was married to the King Mac Graine (Son of the Sun), who was himself the son of the Dagda, the father god of the Tuatha de Danann. When the Milesians (the humans) came to the Emerald Isle, they were confronted by the three sisters, each of them offered the island in exchange that the land be named after them. Banbha and Fodla became poetic names for the island, while Eriu became the chief name. We now know the land as Ireland, the root of the name coming from the name Eriu. Eriu was an earth goddess, and this painting focuses primarily on that aspect of her. I wanted to tune in to earth energies rather than focus on form. As I worked on the piece, I filled my mind with images of Ireland, the land itself, and its plentiful plant and animal life. Eriu was also considered a solar goddess, through her marriage to Mac Graine...

Antony Galbraith

I am a Zen Buddhist monk, (dharma name: Ven. Myohye Do'an) in the Five Mountain Zen Order and in addition to teaching meditation and holding Zen services, I create art. The purchase of prints here help support my ability to live and teach as a monk. Thank you for your consideration. My paintings and drawings explore the natural world and examines ancient mythologies, while seeking to remove the artificial barrier humans have created to separate us from nature. It is my goal to contribute toward creating a new mythic tradition that doesn't ignore the myriad non-human life-forms that have the right to exist with dignity on earth. I also spin yarn, weave, and crochet. My fiber work is a practice in meditation and contemplation. My goal...
