Modern free form Redwood sculpture consisting of two serpentine roots that have been joined together to create a breathtaking vertical composition resembling a spiraling flame formation. The polished redwood roots are heavily twisted with contorted, intertwining appendages flaring upward to create a dramatic sculptural statement. The abstract sculpture has been mounted to an angular, multi faceted base with natural irregular cavities, producing a sharp visual contrast to the organic, fluid redwood root structure. As the sculpture is viewed from different perspectives, exciting new visual splendors are revealed.
This dynamic Redwood sculpture has been composed with redwood roots that have been carved with chain saws, shaped with grinders and carefully hand crafted to further enhance the natural forms. After final preparation, the wood designs are permanently assembled with multiple steel rods. The redwood sculpture components have been highly polished and meticulously sprayed with several applications of a durable semi-gloss clear lacquer producing a lustrous finish that reveals all the natural wood colors and exotic grain patterns. Due to the nature of redwood burls, each sculpture is one of a kind and cannot be duplicated. Although it is possible to create similar designs, each sculpture is totally unique. All of the natural redwood used to create these sculptures has been reclaimed from the underground portions of fallen trees that have been victimized from winter storms, landslides or forest fires, therefor no living trees have been utilized.
All sculptures are signed and numbered by Daryl Stokes and include color brochure with an artist certificate of authenticity.
