Aloha Elaine . it is so good to hear from you .. thank you so much for your visit and kind note and welcome to FAA .. I found this beautiful plant growing wild along a roadway in Waiehu .. I rescued it from county mowers who had already cut half the plant down to the ground so obviously never noticing it .. luckily I was able to save the root as well .. I placed this treasure into a crystal vase of fresh water out on our lanai in filtered light in the shade of our trees .. the following morning we had a lovely soft misty rain, as we do almost each day .. and as the sun rose the bud opened displaying this exquisite tiny bloom in the most amazing deep vibrant rich shade of red . it is a lovely Malvaceae . a Hibiscus flower called Hibiscus acetosella . red-leaf hibiscus, false roselle, African rose mallow . and the thing with this plant is that the entire plant is this beautiful deep shade of red including the leaves . stem . buds . and bloom .. it is so amazing .. and also this blossom is only about 1 inch in circumference .. it is so small and delicate . a natural beauty so rare . . Aloha :))
