Jane, I just read through these wonderful comments and found that everything I would like to say about this exceptional painting had already been said. It is wonderful and a great (perfect) choice for your profile picture. With kind regards

Nick, I was just thinking exactly the same thing, you must be telepathic... :-)

You are amazing dear Jane... I marvel every day at your artistic abilities and talents. It takes a special artist to create a work like this... :-) I just had to come back again for another view. ;-)

Superb work! ^.^

Jane Small replied:

Clara,thank you!!

words elude me...the painting says it all.

Jane Small replied:

Dave,no need for words, you are always so welcome and thank you very much indeed for visiting!

Jane, the only thing that can "hold a candle" to your loveliness that comes from your heart and soul dear, is a painting that came from there, too! I so love this work! It is beautiful, just like you! Fave! L/F!

Jane Small replied:

Kimberlee, you are so kind and I thank you so much for visiting and appreciate it lots!

Jane, you are as apt with masterful words as you are with your masterful painting. :-)

Jane Small replied:

Thanks so much Hartmut. I have no idea of how long I took to respond.Retreating to a degree from FAA but hope to return!

Darlene, indeed 'The Glow of Spirit' is an excellent way of describing this fabulous 'Iona' painting - but your very apt comment is also very much true of all Jane's illuminating masterpieces. :-)

Jane Small replied:

Hartmut !!!!!!! No words!

Yes - The glow of the spirit - The warmth of peace ... Beautiful! fv :)

Jane Small replied:

Thank you lots Darlene!

Wonderful, emotional portrait, Jane ! fvl

Jane Small replied:

Thank you Natalia!

I really can't believe I didn't comment on this exquisite portrait you painted, Jane. I was drawn to this gorgeous work as now this is your new avatar and I love it. Such a serene look this young girl has in here eyes, such a marvelous inner peace she emanates. Gorgeous work, absolutely gorgeous ! Love so much the light, that seems to come as much from inside her as from the marvelously painted candle. Love this work a lot. f,v

Jane Small replied:

Ana,she is just temporarily being my new profile picture.I got fed up with seeing myself looking back at me!! Thank you so much for such kind words.

This is so peaceful and I can absolutely resonate with this incredibly emotional artwork dear Jane.....when the two lights merge, one feels so much serenity and peace, that all else becomes obsolete at least for the moment.....I love this young woman's features and the depth in her eyes......the warmth you have created here is so uplifting my sweet friend......this is perfect for your new avatar....have an awesome weekend! Joyce

Jane Small replied:

Joyce, always so lovely to read your thoughtful words.Thank you so much!

So serene, so still, so beautiful, so de-light-ful, full of inner and outer light ... Jane you perfectly captured the soul and spirit of this gracious young lady. And yet, I also sense a wistful hint of sadness...

Jane Small replied:

Hartmut, thank you so much for your deeply sensitive comment.Perhaps a peaceful "longing" might be what you are intuiting. There is not really quite the word for the feeling. But I know you felt it and I appreciate very much your beautiful words.

Beautiful portrait Jane! she has such a thoughtful soft wistful expression, very captivating and the gorgeous warm colours you used, a wonderful, unique portrait! fv

Jane Small replied:

Thank you so much Nikki!

Jane, I don't know why or how I missed this memorable painting before now. The woman's expression is so well done. The colors and composition, as always, remarkable. Thank you for your kind, gracious and insightful comments. Blessings to you. F/V

Jane Small replied:

Thank you very much Anne-Elizabeth!

Wonderful description and painting!

Jane Small replied:

Thank you Gun!

I adore how you can evoke such feelings from the subconscious mind, to be still and centre on the golden light that surrounds us. I find - I have that far-away look, quite often as I reach through layers of my pysche. It is brilliant, Jane, it brings me home. Thank you - V/F

Jane Small replied:

Kim,that's so nice! Thank you very much for taking time to resonate with this painting. v/f

I am simply fascinated by this exquisite portrait you did, Jane! I think it is so special and beautiful, even it is a bit different from your usual style. The light you created is astonishing and the energy in your touches just brilliant...Her look is priceless... :) I just love it. f/v/g+

Jane Small replied:

Mona, your comment has really stopped me in my tracks this morning! I painted this about twenty years ago.A friend sent me a photo of her daughter Iona as a Christmas card.I was so struck by her serene features that she formed the basis for the young woman in this picture. I have been on such a journey since this was done ,towards impressionism and lots of experimenting with colour.I'm really delighted by what you have written here and it is making me wonder what to do next!! Thank you so much!

Jane,This is a great painting of a girl that looks like she is there but gone into another world of peace. Love Thanks for comment on grasses and butterfly,I am happy you like it. Friends,Marsha FV

Jane Small replied:

Thanks so much for your beautiful comment Marsha!

There are situations in life, when you dont know what to say, perhaps you feel you should say something, but you are afraid, you would choose the wrong words. I was in this situation, when I attended a funeral of a collegue of mine, a few weeks ago, when I shortly pressed the hand of his wife, but could not say any word... I think this painting and the person you depicted so impressively means so much for you. She must be somebody very special, the light and the brightness you used, is indeed her own brightness, her own personality... Never have I seen you using deep black, and you described it as the darkness of life. Only holiness is the word, I am thinking at, when looking at this face,..and the view of her eyes seems to reach very far,..or very deeply within...the moment of oneness, when inner and outer world are merging as the light of the candle and of Iona... v/f Almo

Jane Small replied:

Almo,I was so moved by your comment. When you pressed the hand of that lady,I'm sure she felt the communication and compassion in those few seconds, far more than from any words spoken.I know you intuited the meaning of this painting. It means a lot to me and I spent some time contemplating your words very gratefully. Thank you so much for sharing these beautiful thoughts.

GREAT ART PIECE !!!................V/F

Jane Small replied:

Anand,I'm very grateful to you for appreciating my painting and the spiritual feeling behind it.Thank you very much.

Jane, today I have the strong wish to comment on this wonderful painting. As artists we often strive for the unreachable, we try to create superlatives, we long for things which are beyond everyday life. We do this at least partly in order to create a counterpart to everyday life, which is often quite different from what we would like to have. Nothing said against that. However, everyday life occupies most of our time, and accepting it in a positive way may be a very mature alternative to permanently trying to escape from it. That's why I love this painting. It is unspectacular, it is simple, and it shows - at least for me - with a very moving honesty and credibility a moment of deep contemplation, which is fully in reach of everyday life. The wonderful moment, which we see here, is not an unreachable phantasm, but can be experienced by anyone. This kind of warm and loving realism bears an enormous strength, which I find personally more valuable than many other spectacular artistry seen here on FAA. In my view you created literally something really, really wonderful with this painting! - Andreas, v/f

Jane Small replied:

Andreas, this was painted a long time ago .Iona is the daughter of a friend that I have long ago lost touch with. My friend gave me a photo of her one Christmas and I was so inspired by her serene features that she formed the basis for the girl in this painting.I used very few colours for this compared to my current works! And I think that is appropriate here to convey this moment as simply and clearly as possible. I am so happy this morning to think that you resonated with this moment of contemplation, and its' accessibility to us all if we "stop" just for a moment ! Thank you lots!! I really love reading your thoughts .

Like the whistful expression on her face, lovely picture Jane..

Jane Small replied:

Thanks so much Geoff!
