Artist's Description

This is my 12th and final installment in the “Forgotten Heritage” series. It was by far the most detailed and time exhausting of all of the projects in the series. This particular subject matter challenged the limits of my skills and pushed me beyond my preconceived and self imposed boundaries!
Before I narrate the painting I would like to point some things out about it. The steam engine has got to be both, one of the most practical and most elegant feats of engineering and design, even in our modern times. Given the fact that steam power is a highly inefficient conversion of heat energy to mechanical potential we still are awed by the forces generated to move these huge contraptions at high speeds. No wonder I, and so many others are mesmerized by locomotives of all types.
I took a few artistic liberties with this painting, but not many. I altered the cloud configurations. I did away with the rail car parked on the far side of the bright yellow wall. And, I changed the engin...

I grew up in rural Missouri, born in 1966, I am the eldest of four siblings. Our father worked as a mechanic and retired as the vehicle maintenance manager for the city of Blue Springs, MO. He now lives at the lakes in Ozarks of south central Missouri. Our mother still works as a nurse and now lives in Arizona. My brothers and sister live in southern Missouri in and around Springfield. I am the only one to have remained in the area near our childhood home. Though now I live in Kansas City, MO. I am a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and spent two years in Japan as well as four months in Saudi Arabia during operations in support of the first Gulf War. I have worked various jobs over the years, yet never really settled on one career. I...
