This piece was printed onto printer fabric and fused to 10 oz. cotton duck. It was then stitched by machine with free motion thread painting. The gull was trimmed and stitched to the background, then free motion machine quilted.
About Jenny Williams
Creating something recognizable and beautiful from miles and miles and layer upon layer of nothing but thread is a challenge I find both exciting and fulfilling. I am drawn into the complexity of age and texture and trying to replicate it through manipulating thread. Worn old hotel or tavern signs intrigue me. Paint peeling on an old oil can mesmerizes me. Nature fascinates me. A patch of lichen growing up the side of a tree on the Blue Ridge Parkway makes me yearn to grab my camera. This fascination is what drives me from my camera to my sewing machine. A light covering of thread is first stitched down as somewhat of a grid for the subsequent layers to grasp onto, as well as to help the work remain flat while so much thread is being...
