Artist's Description
This old farmhouse still stands the middle of a farmer's field, but it is obvious that nobody has lived here for many, many years. The house is totally cut off from the nearest road, with not as much as a pathway to approach it.
I often find myself trying to envision all of the people who had known this farmhouse as their family's home, for well over a hundred years.
There must be some very interesting history behind this mysterious old place.
This photo was taken with a Canon EOS 10D DSLR camera through a Canon EF 35-350mm f/3.5-5.6L telephoto zoom lens @ 350mm focal length. The shutter speed was 1/60th sec at f/8. The camera's ISO was set to 100. A Manfrotto tripod was used with a remote shutter release.
Your comments are always welcome! Constructive criticism is appreciated.

I was born in the wild hills of West Virginia, raised in western Maryland and currently live in north central Pennsylvania, USA. My higher education includes Theological Studies, Electronics Engineering, Audio Engineering and Visual Arts. I taught a Media course at Pennsylvania College of Technology (Penn State Affiliate). Photography has been an integral part of my life since the mid 1960's. Capturing the beauty and complexity of nature is my main interest, from macro close-ups to wide vistas views ...and everything in between. Natural waterfalls are the most frequent photographic subjects found at the business end of my lens. Historic Covered Bridges and farmland scenes are also very close to my heart, but any visually interesting...

Gene what a wonderful piece! Love this. Great capture of the old abandoned home. I love seeing that the glass, still in windows, reflects the ever changing world around it. f/v
Gene Walls replied:
Thank you very kindly, Robert! I spent years photographing this farmhouse and its sprawling surroundings. I try to image the people who once called this place their home. Best wishes, Gene

Really a magic place! I love the description!f/v

Thanks a lot, Eti! I met the grandson of the original owner and learned some of the history behind this place. The more I know, the more interesting it gets. Kindest regards, Gene

I looked at each image in the series, and the background history of this place is also interesting. It's a shame that it will soon be torn down, but nice that you've captured the many varies images of it. Very work, and I enjoyed the entire series, Gene.
Gene Walls replied:
Thank you so much for viewing my Forgotten Farmhouse photos, Greg. Today, the house is still there, but nobody knows for how long. I really appreciate your very kind comments. I'll probably keep shooting this place for as long as the farmhouse remains standing. Kindest regards, Gene

I remember this Farmhouse from my one visit to Ricketts Glen. I would have loved to shoot it then but I had both unfavorable light and an unfavorable wife against it happening at the time! LOL! Great shot by the way!!!
Gene Walls replied:
Thanks, Robert! I can't count the number of times I have tortured my wife by leaving her alone in the car while I stopped to grab a shot that I just couldn't pass up. Fortunately, she is a very forgiving sole (especially if she likes the shot). Kindest regards, Gene

Gene, I'm absolutely in awe of this series ... I've often thought of starting an album on FAA and calling it "Vanishing America" which is exactly what you're capturing here as well. I agree with you about the history behind structures like this ... the history and the mystery ... and all the love. Beautiful, beautiful image ... I'm enjoying this whole album very much!!! f/v
Gene Walls replied:
I am so pleased that you are enjoying my Forgotten Farmhouse series, Lois! I have to admit that photographing this spot has been a bit of an obsession for me. I plan to keep shooting here, until either the house or I are no longer standing. lol Kindest wishes, Gene

Gene, so far I have only posted one shot of the old house, it's called Captain Ed's Homestead and is the icon for my Nostalgia gallery. I have taken several others of it but haven't posted them. You've inspired me to take another look at them though. Thanks for the inspiration!!
Penny Meyers
Gene, I love your entire Forgotten Farmhouse series!! I have been working on something similar with an old house in our area, but it's not as fascinating or mysterious as this one. You have captured this masterfully, I love your work!! F/V
Gene Walls replied:
Your kind words are greatly appreciated, Penny! I am fascinated by the "photo series" concept and enjoy seeing the results of long-term projects. Please let me know if your photos of the old house are posted. I'd love to check them out. There is something very satisfying about seeing a specific subject that has been "studied" under different conditions. Kindest regards, Gene
