Mixed Media - Oil, Ceramic Tile, Gravel, Putty, Anti Graffiti Coating, Plywood
This was a long project to complete, I felt we needed a sign at out cabin at the lake, so I started to think of all the wildlife and which ones make me feel like there's no better place to be. I chose the loon, the mournful call they make, the splashing, the swimming with their little babies on top of them....so off I went bought a heavy duty piece of plywood, and 2 large pieces of cermaic tile, I plastered the tile on the plywood, painted the loons, washed a lot of gravel and piece by piece puttied each rock into place, when it was finished, I coated it with a heavy duty coating, gloss, and an anti-graffiti coating so if someone defaces it, it can wash right off, then I drilled holes into it, stuck 2 8 foot, treated cedar square 4x4 posts into the ground and mounted the work, then painted the backside with primer and paint, the same color grey. When winter comes, I simply remove nuts and bolts and washers and store it in our tool shed. I also capped the tops of the posts with black plastic caps that look like little pyramids.
