Description
This original Colour Pencil painting was inspired by my NJ friend’s forays into nearby woodlands and her generosity to share photographs for my reference and surreal “replanting”. While I dearly love and have both acrylic and watercolour painted cow vetch which grows more like tendrils of hanging tubular petals, I have never before painted this wild crown vetch which, to me, resembles clover blooms. Both, however, share that WONDERful ferny vine leafing which I dearly love. I couldn’t resist adding a bit of surreal drama to the background as the photographs captured myriad shades of green and mostly white blooms with ever so slightly pale pink and lavender. Another friend of mine from Tennessee has also been Nature walking...more to follow.
PHOTO CREDIT: Shari Fulper. Thanks so much my friend.
NOTE: Within the controversial distinction of CP “drawing” or “painting” lies artist definition. My definition: when the surface is ENTIRELY burnished, I classify as a Painting; when any exposed Paper Is part of the composition or background, I classify as a drawing. I render both.

Dear Anne, Michael, Randy, Elizabeth and Jasna...somehow...I missed all of the kindnesses and support of this painting...thank you ALL so much for loving the Light Amd delicacy of this simple “weed” study. Some of my favorite flowers have this label weighting them and I love to bring them into their Light!

Great image, Laurel. As lovely as all your other flowers. Thank you very much for your comment.

Many thanks for your kindnesses and support, Such an amazing visit. To answer your question of “how do I paint light?” , I leave the “light” area white, and “sculpt” or develop the surrounding interstices with golden dots of colour that I either burnish (for CP) or bleed (For watercolour) or scumble (for acrylic) or rub (for Soft pastel, charcoal, graphite)...leaving more white for summer or winter sun or varying shades of gold for either Spring or Autumn sun. I believe that to understand Light one must understand “the bubble”...in fact, that, along with movement thru ones’s fear, was primarily what I taught in watercolour. ...thank you for asking, Kay.

I'm not familiar with vetch but you surely show it as a lovely plant. I particularly like the ray of light coming down on it. How do you paint light?
