As I stepped out of the ruins of the church and back into the burial ground, I was struck by the odd lighting conditions, casting harsh shadows of the upright tombstones onto their supine neighbours, with the area under the tree and and in the background in deep shadow. As I set up the shot, the cartouche on the tombstone (lower right) caught my eye - "Thy Will be Done".
About John Ellison
I am based in Burnley, England and specialise in HDR (High Dynamic Range) landscape and architectural photography. The area where I live was the birthplace of the industrial revolution, and is stacked to the rafters with atmospheric ruins, relics and locations. This is what influences my work. I have been interested in photography for about 25 years, and the digital revolution has allowed me to turn my hobby into a sideline, which I can hopefully progress into a career.
