Painting - Oil On Linen Panel
Description
This was painted partly on location at the plaza just in front of the Metropolitan Museum, with the weird twiggy tree branches catching the late-winter sunlight, which also highlights the hardy hot dog and art vendors scattered along the pavement. Those odd-looking trees are actually ordinary London plane trees, but they've been pruned -- "pollarded," specifically -- in a way that's supposed to allow more sunlight to get through the upper branches.
