Description
A vast range of frugivores, from birds to squirrels, reptiles to monkeys and even our pre-human ancestors, have depended on the fig for survival. An astounding 1300 bird and mammal species eat figs. More wildlife than any other known fruit rely on the fig for sustenance. Former fig biologist Rhett Harrison has contended that Ficus is one of the most important plant families in tropical rainforests. The entire ecosystem would be at risk if they were removed from the forest. Because of the widespread of dependence on figs, the plant has played a central role in encouraging the regeneration of deforested landscapes. With wildlife activity around a bountiful fig tree, frugivores deposit these seeds in their droppings or by shedding those attached to their bodies; consequently, introducing a diverse range of plant species back into the system. The best way to restore deforested terrains is to plant fig trees. “Fig Tree and Doves,” is a hand-painted digital image and photo composite created in Spadecaller’s Florida Studio on 9/27/2021.
