We're quite pleased with how this looks hanging in our home's entry.

Always wanted one of L.T.'s works. Very happy with this one.

I purchased this photo for a fundraiser for the Helena, Montana festival of trees. I grew up in Libby, Montana and had heard of Bob Hosea through my dad. The framing and the photo turned out perfect! I added it to a basket of other items made by Montana artists and the basket became the star of the show. Thank you.

The artwork and framing is exquisite. Unfortunately it was damaged in transit. It is in the process of being replaced.

Served aboard the Bibb as medical officer in early 1972. Was thrilled to find such a beautiful rendering of her, especially with the Newfoundland nautical chart background which reflects where she spent so much of her time in those days. Thank you Cathy.

The photo is lovely. However, the mat is not grey. It's periwinkle. After several attempts to contact customer service, they haven't responded with any solutions, only that they would look into it ASAP and get back to me. That was Nov 25. I've since disputed the charge on my credit card to get their attention. All I want is the grey mat I ordered.

Artist's Description

F.W. Murnau's (1888-1931) wonderful "Sunrise" was made just before 1927's "The Jazz Singer" spelled the end of the silent film, which only lasted from the early 1890's to 1930; the shortest period for any art form in history. Those who dislike silent cinema should put aside their prejudice and inhale this wonder. The cinematography By Charles Rosher (1885-1974) and Karl Struss (1886-1981) is simply extraordinary; utterly ravishing. It is the first film to win an Oscar for cinematography.

About David Lee Guss

I first became obsessed with photography and motion pictures while growing up in post WW2 Manila in the Philippine Islands in the late 1940's/early 1950's. Film noirs were a particular influence. But my first love remains the theater. I acted in numerous amateur productions from 1958 to 1978. In 1979 I earned a MA in drama from the University of Arizona; earlier getting a BA in English from the University of Minnesota, where I co-founded the first film society on campus and ran it for four years. While at the U of A, I studied with the master black and white photo essayist W. Eugene Smith (1918-1978) the last year of his life. I am the last person cited in Jim Hughes' definitive biography of Gene, as I wrote about attending his final...
