My husband and I had a lovely trip to Paris and southern France last July. While on a bus trip we were able to take a photo of this cafe that we share a name with. Our photo was a little blurry and not good for enlargement. Your wonderful photo now hangs in our own kitchen as a nice reminder of that trip. It is beautiful and of very good quality. We love it. Artist's Description
The Kansas street was built, on the side of the sound stage, in 1968, for "Heaven With a Gun" starring Glenn Ford. It was seen often in "Little House on the Prairie" and in "Posse." Kirk Douglas produced, directed and starred in "Posse" (1975).
Bruce Dern stole the picture. This photo was taken in 1984 as the children finished shooting for the day, happy to be done standing around.
The side of the tall structure on the left is the courthouse built for "Joe Kidd."

I first became obsessed with photography and motion pictures while growing up in post WW2 Manila in the Philippine Islands in the late 1940's/early 1950's. Film noirs were a particular influence. But my first love remains the theater. I acted in numerous amateur productions from 1958 to 1978. In 1979 I earned a MA in drama from the University of Arizona; earlier getting a BA in English from the University of Minnesota, where I co-founded the first film society on campus and ran it for four years. While at the U of A, I studied with the master black and white photo essayist W. Eugene Smith (1918-1978) the last year of his life. I am the last person cited in Jim Hughes' definitive biography of Gene, as I wrote about attending his final...
