Good grocery or farmer's market bag. I feel the artist's name should be displayed on the product.

I love my new bag. It is so beautiful. I work in schools with children who have hearing loss and they love my bag. I get to share information about hearing loss with teachers in the school when they ask about the lovely picture. I also tell them about Ms. Soares. Thanks for sharing her story. It makes the picture even more unique. I had a difficult time choosing from all the options just related to hearing but fell in love with all of her offerings on this site. The quality of the bag is great also.

I purchased this for a gift and the recipient was blown away. The artistry is alive in this bag with Frida. Perfect!

Artist's Description

Silent film actress Louise Brooks (1906-1985) has become a cult idol; even more fascinating with the passage of time. She was a gifted writer who wrote insightful, first hand accounts of Humphrey Bogart and W.C. Fields among others. In writing about meeting John Wayne for the first time, she wrote: "Looking up at him I thought, this is not an actor but the hero of all mythology miraculously brought to life." Later she claimed that he was "a purely beautiful thing," what writer Henry James defined as the "greatest of all works of art." Brooks was a party girl and a child of the silent cinema. Memorizing lines of dialogue in talkies did not suit her free, hedonistic spirit. She was all washed up in Hollywood by 1931, six years after her first screen appearance in a brief role.

About David Lee Guss

I first became obsessed with photography and motion pictures while growing up in post WW2 Manila in the Philippine Islands in the late 1940's/early 1950's. Film noirs were a particular influence. But my first love remains the theater. I acted in numerous amateur productions from 1958 to 1978. In 1979 I earned a MA in drama from the University of Arizona; earlier getting a BA in English from the University of Minnesota, where I co-founded the first film society on campus and ran it for four years. While at the U of A, I studied with the master black and white photo essayist W. Eugene Smith (1918-1978) the last year of his life. I am the last person cited in Jim Hughes' definitive biography of Gene, as I wrote about attending his final...
