Description
Executive Order 6102 required all persons to deliver on or before May 1, 1933, all but a small amount of gold coin, gold bullion, and gold certificates owned by them to the Federal Reserve.
After the Depression Era Roosevelt Gold Confiscation, gold bullion ownership was not legalized in the U.S. until 1974. The Danbury Mint struck the first gold coin/medalion and I was there to photograph it at 12:01 AM on that first day of legalization.
Here a Gerald Ford Presidential Inaugural Medallion is shown compared to an Accutron watch, the first with a tuning fork mechanism.
