Part of my series of 18th century anthropomorphs on doilies, this lady has sprouted wings where she once had arms, fearlessly flying into the flames of her passion. These images are inspired by costumes I wear (or wish I could wear) in my operatic cabaret show. This is a colored pencil drawing on a gold metallic paper doily, which has been embellished with decorative paper and treated with an acrylic ground to give it a good drawing tooth. This one of a kind drawing has been treated with spray fixative to ensure durability. Note that while prints of this image can be ordered, they will not have the same metallic sheen of the original.

The daughter of an actor and a poet, Juliana Brandon is an artist of many disciplines. Determined to become a children’s book illustrator as a child, she discovered that she could sing opera at age 14 and changed focus toward the musical arts. Nonetheless, she followed the original dream of becoming a visual artist and obtained a BA in Art History at The University of Washington in 2000.
