This image of a female Florida Panther was captured at a wildlife park. Florida panthers, a subspecies of the cats also known as puma, cougar, catamount and mountain lion, is endangered. These cats were at one time found throughout North, Central and South America, the largest range of any mammal in the western hemisphere, but are now limited to “isolated islands” of their former range. This species is able to thrive in diverse habitats including coniferous forests, tropical forests, swamps, grasslands and dry brush country. It is basically able to survive in any habitat that provides enough adequate cover and prey.
