Flower skeletons. Close-up of the skeleton of the calyx of the flower of the Chinese lantern plant (Physalis tranchetii). The calyx tissue has been broken down by decomposition, leaving only the fine network of veins remaining. The calyx of the Chinese lantern is an inflated, bright orange-red structure which enclose the fruit of the plant. The plant originated in Japan but is now found all over Europe.
