Description
Over eons, hot springs with high mineral content have up-welled in the area now called Mammoth Hot Springs to form wondrous mineral formations of stone that have the appearance of water falls. The springs are heated by underground volcanic activity just north of the Yellowstone caldera (one of the largest volcanic calderas in the world - all underground at the moment) and rise to the surface carrying calcium carbonate and other mineral such as iron, to color the rock formations.
