Description
This is the fifth demonstration piece for “Wind, Waves and Weather” 2007. The goal of this painting was to tie it all together: the bold choice of colours and strokes, the waves and the weather. The weather had turned very foggy and it was a great change from the sun of Wednesday. Sometimes less is more. At times the fog would roll in off Lake Huron and up the Saugeen River so that we could barely even see the sail boat. Fog is challenging to forecast but very easy to appreciate.
This view is toward the north from the southern shore of the Saugeen River. A row of sail boats provided the perfect and simple subject for me to do the waves and the fog. The fog got really thick so that we couldn’t see the far shore. It would then get thin so that we could not only see the far shore but also the colours of the trees.
I think everyone was pretty much exhausted by the end of the day…painting is hard work. It is estimated that the artist has to make 200 thousand decisions in the creation of a standard plein air painting - maybe more...
