Description
In 2012 I traveled to the northeastern United States so I could experience the beauty of fall colors. I was in Massachusetts, Maine, and New York. I was certainly not disappointed. I was initially perplexed to be hiking in snow at an altitude of only 3600 feet on Mount Greylock in Massachusetts. I mean we have large mountains in Arizona that rise to 12,600 feet and we dont hit snow, even during the winter, until we get to 5000+ feet. It was actually a simple reason though, Massachusetts is farther north than Arizona. It just shows how people used to certain climates and locations not only have a great desire to see what they do not experience every day, but they also have to understand different locations have a variety of new things to discover simply by their geographical location on our planet.
Mount Greylock is located in the northwestern part of Massachusetts where it rises to 3,489 feet. The mountain is often shrouded in a misty fog and has a variety of fantastic hiking trails. At the top of the mountain it is said you can see five states, although when I was there it was foggy. There is a memorial at the top of the mountain dedicated to the veterans of Massachusetts. Greylock is the tallest mountain in Massachusetts. The hiking and fall colors were fantastic.
