Fort Laramie Parade Ground by Debra Martz

The parade ground was the center for the post with housing and utilitarian buildings encircling it. It was intended for a large variety of activity but was not in constant use while serving as a military post with the exception of changing of the guard each morning at 9 a.m. and a full dress parade held each Sunday.
Fort Laramie was strategically located along the confluence of the Laramie and North Platte Rivers in southeast Wyoming. Tens of thousands of emigrants traveling the Oregon Trail would eventually stop at the fort which was first used as a fur trade and later purchased by the U.S. Army and used as a military post.
In the nearby town of Guernsey, WY we found the "Oregon Trail Ruts State Historic Site" which is a preserved site of wagon ruts of the Oregon Trail on the North Platte River.
