Freedom by Charlotte Nunn
I wanted to make a work about Freedom. In fact, I wanted to piece a piece about Freedom. PIECE a piece!! As a long-time fabriholic and quilt/tapestry/textile- maker, trust me when I say that there is NO FREEDOM in piecing!! Measure this - measure that - cut - no, wait!! Measure it again BEFORE you cut!! How come nothing's fitting together?? Rip it out and START OVER!! Eeek!!
As usual, I spent way too much time fretting and fussing and second-guessing myself, etc, etc. re: what technique(s) to use; what sorts of fabrics to use; what about paint; what other kinds of embellishments should I use; beads; findings; feathers; buttons; etc, etc.; there HAS to be PAINT; plus, I have such a Thing for metallic paints; Wait: m-a-y-b-e I should skip embellishments altogether; blah, blah, blah!! Double Eeek!!
I decided to: 1) tear up all of my notes; 2) scrap all of my thoughts; and, 3) simply B-E-G-I-N!!
This work was created with: NO MEASUREMENTS; NO PATTERN (not even a teeny, tiny sketch); NO FUSSING; NO FRETTING; NO SECOND-GUESSING; blah, blah, blah!!
AS a result: making this was SO FUN and SO EASY!!
