The work visually consists of a female body representing Nature. The reason why It is depicted as a pregnant woman is because Nature is always gravid, constantly creating. The body is made of water, because it is in the water that the first life was born, and it is in water that the fetus grows for 9 months. The belly, shaped as planet Earth, identifies her strongly with our Mother Earth. The roots by the feet stand for the Past, whilst branches of oak -the sacred tree- with acorns -one of the first food of Mankind- instead of the head, represent the Future; a future that we must strive to see green and linked to the preservation of the planet.
In the background stands the Mayan calendar as a reminder for the many prophecies about the end of time, not as a material end of the world but in a view of hope, as the end of a negative cycle and the beginning of a positive.
Around the circumference of the calendar you can see the Ouroboros, the snake biting...
Rossella Rispoli was born and still lives in Orbetello, GR, Italy. Her atelier is in via Buonarroti, 1/3. On March 23, 2010 she graduated in the Academy of fine Arts with a thesis entitled "Pregnancy and childbirth from prehistoric sacredness to medicalization today" (for which she received 110 and honors), supervised by Prof. Tiziana D'Acchille. On March 2012 she graduated with the Biannual Thesis on Visual Arts and Discipline of the Performing Arts as a Fresco entitled "The Fertility Tree - The Medieval fresco of Massa Marittima". 110 and honors. - November 2011: Internship and workshop on Art History and Icon painting with Prof. Barbara Rosi of Porto Santo Stefano. - July 2012 - Received a Diploma of Artistic Proficiency (maturity)...
