Gaillardia pulchella is named after M. Gaillard, a French botany patron, and is also known as: firewheel, Blanket Flower, Indian Blanket, Indian Blanketflower or Sundance Bicolor.
This 2003 AAS winner is the first consistent mahogany red and golden yellow bicolor gaillardia flower. The globe-shaped festive 2 inch pom-pom blooms are primarily double and will cover the plant throughout the growing season, even during hot, dry periods. Its upright, toothed or lobed, bushy gray-green foliage beautifully sets off the showy, double daisy-like flowers with dark rose-purple centers. The blooms seem to dance on wiry stems spring to fall. It has a spreading, mounding growth habit which is ideal for hanging baskets or patio containers as well as for beds or borders. These bushy plants grow 10-14" and require virtually no maintenance - no pinching or staking!
