It is beautiful, but there is more blue than green in the pattern which was disappointing
“Garden of Intention” was created as an experiment in harnessing the collective power of intention within a work of art. I began by distributing collage papers to children, friends, fellow artists, and teachers. They were invited to share their positive intentions for a better world. I then painted, stamped, stenciled and otherwise embellished these papers. They were hand torn and reassembled to create a collaged painting comprised of nearly 1,000 pieces of paper, many of them filled with these submissions. My goal for this piece was to create a visual groundwork from which these written intentions could grow into a powerful force for positive change in the world. My hope is that everyone who sees this piece will be inspired to consider their own positive intentions. I know that while integrating these heartfelt, honest, and sometimes playful submissions into my painting, I was profoundly moved and filled with joy. My most recent work draws more inspiration from color and texture than distinct subject matters, and my objective remains to imbue my canvasses with a sense of emotion. Through the intricate texture and vibrant color in my pieces, I aim to create a visceral response in the viewer; my hope is that the viewer may connect with them emotionally rather than through conscious, deliberate effort. In this way, viewers create their own interpretations through this initial connection, and the narrative of the piece becomes secondary. I was born and raised in Southeastern Michigan.
